About the Authors

  • Dolores M. Byrnes is a researcher, writer, and anthropologist (Ph.D., Cornell 2001) based in Northern Virginia. Born in Warren, Ohio, Byrnes began her career at NBC News in Manhattan after a stint as a visiting professor in Guanajuato, Mexico, funded by a U.S. Agency for International Development grant. She lived in Poland and Switzerland while raising her two children, returning to Mexico in 2000 to conduct doctoral fieldwork. Her research was published in a 2003 book titled Driving the State. She has studied in England, been an instructor at the Asian University for Women in Bangladesh, as well as at Colgate University and Cornell University, and since 2004, her projects have included strategic planning and communications at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York.
  • John W. Padberg, S.J., is a historian (博彩网址大全 A&S ’49, Grad A&S ’54, Ph.D., Harvard 1965) who has both taught at Saint Louis University and also served in its administration, including as academic vice president. Father Padberg was president of Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, from 1975 to 1985, and directed the Institute of Jesuit Sources from 1986 to 2014.
  • John Waide (博彩网址大全 A&S ’73) earned his master’s degree in history at Duke University in 1974. His career as an archivist/librarian at Saint Louis University spans five decades.
